Familia!

This week was good. The other day I was studying in Alma 32:40-41 and thinking about the importance of persevering. Sometimes we know what we want to achieve or earn or have but we lack the intermediate goals that help us get there. If we have hope without faith we won’t be able to achieve much. But if we really work and do everything exactly like our Heavenly Father wants us to, that’s when we see miracles. It’s like the conference address by Elder Anderson. Why do we dance? Because that’s what we’ve been taught and we do it because everyone else is, or do we dance because we can hear the music?

It was a really beautiful Sunday yesterday. I was able to bear my testimony in sacrament meeting and I almost did it without crying. Everyone is giving me counsel and it’s helping me understand, or get used to the idea, that’s its ok to go home and not being a full time missionary anymore. Now is the time that I get to apply my testimony. I feel like now, after 18 months, I can hear the music better. This year and a half has really been amazing and I wouldn’t give it up for anything. Now I know who I am and I understand who God is. I still don’t understand everything and I know I have to keep being diligent in what I know it true.

Thank you for all your support and love and encouragement. And I will see you all in a week.

Love, Hermana Jacob

Hola familia,

This week was good, it’s always a little hard going to Guadalajara because we lose days of working in our area and you can tell the difference. The leadership council was good; we talked a lot about the importance of having members in the lessons so that the investigators can really progress. Have the Elders at home ever asked you to accompany them? We also talked a lot about how in the mission we are leaders but for our whole lives, as members on the church, we will be leaders and we need to understand that it’s not just supervising and motivating but we need to learn how to lift, encourage, inspire, and bless.

Hola (4-27-15)

HOLLLLLA familia

This week was good. We found a lot of new people to teach and most of them accepted dates to be baptized… looks like everyone’s going to get baptized after the 25th of May.

Yesterday we knocked the door of a family that we talked to in the street about 2 weeks ago. They told us they had been waiting for us. So we got to know them a little bit; they are Catholic but don’t practice the religion. We started sharing a little bit about what we will be teaching them and the things they will be doing in order to receive more blessings. Then all of a sudden we hear a whistling and one of the little girls standing in front of the front door got wind and dirt thrown at her, it was like a little tornado in front of their house. They said it was a sign, because every time they get close to listening to missionaries or reading a pamphlet, something happens. So they decided that this time they are going to listen and put their life back in order. They are really a cute little family.

Also this week Hermana Rosa started working on her family history and when she is a member she is going to do their work.  Friday we will go to the stake center to work with her to be able to find more family.

There is a missionary that is serving from this ward and her families aren’t members and never listened to the missionaries…until now 🙂 This week we visited them and for the first time her dad listened, participated, and said the prayer. Little baby steps are what we need right now.

I hope everyone is doing great!  Nos vemos pronto:)

This week was good, it was just one of those weeks where we walked and walked and walked and walked more and got more burnt. But these weeks just mean that there is something great around the corner.

My companion is great; she’s from the state of Mexico and only has 4 months in the mission. She finished her training with Hermana Betti (mi hija) for one transfer and now she’s a sister training leader. She has more charity than almost anyone, (but not as much as my mom) and she super funny. It’s sad we are only going to be together for 6 weeks but I feel better that I’ll leave my area in good hands.

This transfer we have 6 companionships of sisters instead of 4. So we are going to be in entercambios all the time. But good news, Hermana Betti is still one of the sisters in my district.  The mission finally received more American sisters and 2 are in our zone.

I’m starting to think about what to bring home…lots of spicy candy with chile and tamarindo spoons. 🙂

I love you all! And thank you for all the photos and letters!

We’ve seen a lot of progress.

Isis was finally baptized, and her dad was able to baptize her. Everything was super beautiful and she was super happy.

My whole mission I’ve been praying to find a family to teach and sent to the temple one day.  I always thought that it would be investigators; but I realized yesterday when they were talking about doing their family history and inviting all of their family to listen to the gospel that THIS is my family. I really love them so much.

Today we had changes. My companion left for Guadalajara and I received a sister who just finished her training, so she’s a new leader. I also found out that  I’m going to finish in my area! That’s what I’d been hoping for.  Life is good.

Conference was great! Hermana Rosa came to both sessions Saturday and it was perfect. To me it felt like all they talked about was the family and the importance of being married and sealed in the temple. They just repeated it and repeated it.  I think we are making progress. It was beautiful because before the conference she prayed to know what she needs to do specifically to progress so she can get baptized.

He Lives (3-30-15)

Hola! I’m never going to get trunky. Never. De hecho (in fact), when I get back I’m just going to work with the missionaries all day long.

Baptism

Baptism

This week was good and fast. I didn’t get burned and it didn’t rain so we are good. We had a baptism for a girl that has been waiting just about forever to be baptized. So we got the ok from the leaders and went with it. Her service was super pretty and super-fast before the General Conference.

Also Saturday the video finally came out #becausehelives and we have been able to share it with people.  Every day in the street when we talk to people we have little cards and we tell them we have a video to share with them. It’s really beautiful because no one really understands why we are celebrating or what Easter is about; they just know they don’t have to go to school. So when we can share with them what it means that Christ lives, they start to understand they have to look for him.

It doesn’t matter how many times I watch the video I feel like crying every time. How blessed are we to really understand the atonement and what that means for us.  He lives and through grace and mercy we have as much potential as Him.

Cookies and sunburns (3-23-15)

Hola,

It didn't rain!!

It didn’t rain!!

Sunburn!

Sunburn!

This week it didn’t rain but I got burned pretty badly. Everyone is pretty concerned for me, because I’m so white; even the random people in the street. They all ask me if I use sunscreen, so don’t worry mom, I have enough people telling me every day to take care of myself.

This week we got a new ward mission leader so it feels a lot like Christmas right now. We are pretty excited.  I also decided I want that calling when I get back….  I’m a sister but that’s ok right? J Also it feels like Christmas because it’s almost General Conference!  Does everyone have their questions ready?

Today we made cookies!  I ate a lot of dough so I’m really happy.

Rain (3-16-15)

Happy birthday Spencer and Ella! I would sing you the Mañanitas but you’ll just have to look it up on YouTube instead!

Gray skies

Gray skies

This week was like I was home. It rained a lot. But the difference is that here when it rains no one can do anything. Or better, they don’t want to. They just stay in their house with tea and they don’t leave. So that’s good for us to find people in their homes but we got pretty wet. And when I told the people that it’s like this all the time where I live, they said, “ohhh that’s why everyone’s so white.”

We are hoping to have the baptism for the sister the week after general conference, we are pretty excited.  Also I’ll tell you the story about the dog in May because it’s a lot to type.

This week was a pretty normal week. We drank a lot of tea and went to bed early every night. Also I did a little better at taking pictures this week.

I love you all!
